Pioneer launches corn hybrids with water stress tolerant Optimum Aquamax technology
Products have undergone genetic improvement techniques to provide maximum productivity even in adverse conditions
Loyder, which specializes in intelligent technologies that promote plant health and is one of the four business units of the Essere Group, a new national holding company, will begin construction of its first manufacturing unit, in an area of 62 thousand square meters, in Olímpia, in the interior of São Paulo, with the capacity to serve the State of São Paulo, one of the main national agricultural markets. The work is expected to be completed in June 2022.
“The initiative is part of the Haya Project, which is a turning point in the farmer’s nutrient management process. The construction of Loyder's first factory is in line with the exponential growth outlined by the Essere Group at a national level. In total, Loyder plans to build 10 new units in strategic national markets, including Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia, São Paulo, Piauí, Goiás and Minas Gerais”, reveals Luiz Fernando Schmitt, Director of Marketing & New Business at Essere Group.
Each of Loyder's 10 units will have a production capacity of 50 thousand tons of NPK's fertilizers with one production shift. These 10 units, once installed in strategic national markets, will deliver a volume of around 500 thousand tons of fertilizers, which will capture a market share of 1% of a total market of 50 million tons, expected by 2030.
The construction of each Loyder manufacturing unit will require an investment of around R$35 million. It is estimated, therefore, that R$350 million will be invested in the construction of 10 new factories. In addition to the physical structures, the Haya Project also foresees the hiring of new employees, including R&D professionals, agronomists and commercial teams, the implementation of qualification and training programs for these employees, potentially reaching the level of R$400 million in investments to make viable the entire Project strategy for the next decade.
The management of nutrients in the soil, as well as measuring the degree of efficiency of these nutrients, continue to be major challenges for Brazilian farmers, as they face, in their daily activities, several problems that affect this management, such as: Weather conditions tropical and subtropical conditions that cause low agronomic efficiency of traditional fertilizers; non-uniformities in the application of fertilizers to the soil, generating ineffective use of nutrients; poor rooting and low initial start-up of crops; errors caused in the distribution of fertilizers that increase the operational cost of application; caking problems and application difficulties that are caused by the high hygroscopicity of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers.
Faced with these problems, the farmer faces the following “pains”: loss of profitability, feeling of frustration and impotence for not being able to manage the inefficiencies in the use of soil fertilizers; increase in the level of demands for sustainability and productivity.
It becomes essential for the farmer, faced with this scenario, to remedy these “pains” and solve the problems. To achieve this, it is necessary to reduce or eliminate the low efficiency of fertilizers by using smart fertilizers; improve the applicability of fertilizers without generating non-uniformity, with a formula with excellent flowability, increase the rooting of crops through incentives for greater use of nutrients in the soil, use a fertilizer in the right measure for greater expression of production with its sustainability.
Thinking specifically about the use of nutrients in the soil, it is ideal to observe the following dynamics: To produce a certain crop it is necessary to fertilize the soil and the traditional way of fertilizing is to use sources of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium, found in so-called NPK fertilizers. “When a fertilization process is carried out with these macronutrients, part of the supplementation of the nutritional needs that the plant needs is configured, the complementarity with the Secondary macronutrients (Ca, Mg and S) and the micronutrients (B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni and Zn) makes it possible to extract the best productivity indicators from each crop and effectively produce food”, teaches Schmitt.
In this process, Haya technology includes macronutrients, micronutrients and substances that enhance rooting, as it is an intelligent fertilizer, coated with additives that reduce losses due to volatilization and leaching of nitrogen (N), modifying the diffusive flow mechanism of phosphorus (P ), reducing the phosphorus (P) fixation process and minimizes the saline index and potassium (K) leaching from the soil. Furthermore, Haya technology enhances the effect of nutrients in the soil due to their action on the plant's physiological processes from the initial phase; improves the distribution of fertilizers in a homogeneous way, reduces caking, plugging and hygroscopicity of fertilizers.
To give you an idea of the important role of fertilizers, in 2020, the Brazilian NPK market ended the year with a production volume of around 38 million tons. For 2021, it is estimated that 40 million tons will be sold. This is a market that grows at a rate of 8% to 10% per year. In 2030, the forecast is that this market will produce approximately 50 million tons.
“The national and global population continues to have birth rates above death rates. There are thousands of “mouths” that reach the world at the end of each day. As a result, the producer is charged by society to produce more and more. It is therefore necessary to offer good conditions for producers to better manage their crops, obtain greater profitability in their operations and be sustainable. With the use of intelligent NPK fertilizers, such as Haya, the plant will be able to express its genetic potential much better through the fertilization process. Losses are reduced and the process will be more environmentally friendly”, observes Schmitt.
