After showing some reaction in August, paddy rice prices fell again in September. According to Cepea researchers, the pressure came especially from weakened demand, which has kept liquidity in the spot market in Rio Grande do Sul low.

In the month, the ESALQ/SENAR-RS Indicator for rice 58% whole grains (RS) fell 2,4%, closing at R$74,58/50 kg bag on the 30th. The September average was R$ $74,98/sc, 42,1% lower than September/20, in real terms (values deflated by the IGP-DI).

However, when considering only the months of September, the average for the last month is still one of the highest in the series, in real terms, second only to that recorded last year. Even so, according to Cepea researchers, this scenario does not indicate that the producer has had good profitability, given the high production costs.
