In the month of June, a large cloud of locusts formed in Paraguay and spread to other areas of South America. This was also a cause for concern for Brazilians, especially farmers in the south of the country, as the pest quickly moved across the country. Argentine territory, with a real risk of reaching Brazilian territory, which could result in the destruction of crops and pastures. However, the good news was that the rain and cold kept the locust cloud away from Brazil during that period.
However, with the change in climate in recent days, the plague is once again worrying farmers in the Southern Region. A second cloud of locusts is moving through Argentina. For now, this cloud does not pose any major threats to Brazil, but it is necessary to monitor, as this time, the weather conditions are not favorable for the locusts to stay away.
O atmospheric lock which is preventing instability from entering Brazil, is keeping the south of Brazil very dry and hot. The next days of the week will still be marked by these weather conditions. The weather should only start to change from Wednesday in the Region.
According to information from agrometeorologist João Castro, from Climatempo, these insects, for the most part, like heat and dry weather. Therefore, rural producers must remain alert in the coming days.
