Coopavel Mais Trigo has unprecedented differences to strengthen triticulture
The cooperative's operating area allocates 130 thousand hectares for the activity, which is equivalent to 10% of what is cultivated with the cereal in the state of Paraná
Bonsucro is the global sustainability platform for the sugarcane production chain, which aims to collectively accelerate the production and sustainable uses of the crop among producers, mills, buyers and end users. Koppert, a biological control company that is heavily involved in sugarcane cultivation, became a member of the entity so that together they can face the challenges of the sugarcane sector and boost its performance through its system of sustainability standards.
For Koppert Brasil's marketing manager, Jaqueline Antonio, being a member of Bonsucro is extremely important to guarantee responsible sugarcane production, one of the most economically important crops in the country and the world. “Bonsucro is active in all sugarcane products and derivatives and manages a community of more than 260 members in 50 countries across the sugarcane supply chain, representing 27% of production and 20% of buyers. Now, we are part of this important system”, she ponders.
The Bonsucro certification platform and system are recognized by the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice - a globally recognized framework for effective and reliable sustainability systems; and certified biofuel is also recognized by the European Union Commission in the EU Renewable Energy Directive (EU-RED). Furthermore, the Bonsucro certification system meets the requirements set by the Dutch government in response to the National Energy Agreement for Sustainable Growth.
According to Bonsucro's manager in Brazil, Livia Ignácio, it will be of immense value for the Bonsucro network to be able to count on Koppert's experience in the context of nature's own solutions for the healthy management of sugarcane agricultural crops. “There is a strong movement towards more holistic approaches that aim to increasingly reduce the use of chemicals in farming and the adoption of biological controls. Promoting good agricultural practices and soil health will be key to a sustainable and resilient sugarcane industry.”
