Komatsu, a Japanese manufacturer of equipment for the construction, mining, industrial and forestry sectors, has announced a new cycle of investments in Brazil. The company will invest R$100 million by 2027 in the modernization and expansion of its factory in Suzano (SP), which will turn 50 in 2025.
With the capacity to produce more than 3 machines per year, the unit will undergo a broad transformation to increase production by more than 50% by 2030. The new investment adds to the R$161 million already invested since 2023, totaling R$261 million.
Planned improvements include the construction of a new manufacturing building, the acquisition of welding robots, machining machines and a new cation painting line. The plant is also expected to double the number of product development engineers by 2025, with a focus on meeting growing demand in Brazil and countries in Latin America and Africa.
As part of the strategy, two models are being nationalized: the WA380-6 wheel loader and the PC500LC-10M0 large excavator. According to the company, the nationalization facilitates access to credit via Finame, reduces taxes and increases the availability of parts and accessories. Komatsu also plans to produce new models of compact and small loaders from 2025.
“The Brazilian market is evolving, and we need to be prepared. These investments strengthen our commitment to the country and position us as a reference for all of Latin America,” says Jeferson Biaggi (pictured), president of Komatsu’s manufacturing unit in Brazil.
Founded in 1975, the Suzano plant was Komatsu's first outside Japan and has a complete structure for casting, cutting, assembly and shipping. The company also maintains a network of distributors, technical assistance and parts centers throughout the country.
