With a focus on understanding customer needs and meeting their logistical and transport demands with solutions, JSL began the testing phase of the pentagon at LD Celulose's operations, in Indianópolis (MG).
The penttrain, as the name suggests, is similar to a railway train: a mechanical horse that moves five cargo compartments, totaling 47 meters in length. Due to its size, the equipment only travels on the farms' internal roads. In the case of LD Celulose, the equipment transports eucalyptus logs from the farms to the company's industrial park – on average 28 km per trip -, where the wood is transformed.
“JSL has great knowledge in this type of operation. It was one of the first companies in the country to use pentatrains and maintains a team of highly trained and experienced drivers to drive the equipment, which requires an operation specially designed for it”, highlights Ramon Alcaraz, CEO of JSL.
The advantage of the pentatrain is the substantial gain in productivity, which can reach up to 50% in the case of wood transport. The equipment reduces the number of annual trips made on highways by around 5.600, saving up to 220 thousand liters of diesel oil over the period.
Once the test phase is complete, JSL plans to operate 15 pentatrains on the farms of LD Celulose – a joint venture between the Austrian Lenzing and the Brazilian Dexco, which is implementing one of the largest dissolving pulp factories in the world in the region, with a capacity of 500 thousand tons /year.
