John Deere informed, through its profile on X network, which "will no longer participate in external social or cultural awareness events, such as parades and festivals." Furthermore, he pointed out that “he never had and does not have diversity quota policies or pronoun identification.”
The demonstration is part of the movement in the United States so that companies operating in the agricultural sector do not use resources to promote behaviors that are disapproved by their customers. Tractor Supply recently took similar steps (see "Tractor Supply revokes diversity initiatives after pressure from activists”). One of the leaders of the movement is Robby Starbuck.
John Deere also announced that it will audit all training materials and company policies to ensure they are free from socially motivated messages, in compliance with federal, state and local laws.
On the other hand, in the same statement, he stated: "we fundamentally believe that a diverse workforce allows us to better meet the needs of our customers and, therefore, we will continue to monitor and promote the diversity of our organization".
The company also reported that, last year, it adjusted its corporate guidelines to focus "exclusively on sponsorships that directly support the business and brand." The company's nonprofit initiatives now focus on areas such as "fighting hunger, economic development, poverty alleviation, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), agricultural education, and supporting the United States military and veterans."
