Models are designed to meet the unique needs of wineries and orchards; presentation takes place at the World Ag Expo, an event that runs until February 15th, in Tulare, California
John Deere, in partnership with GUSS Automation, introduced an autonomous and fully electric herbicide sprayer: the Electric GUSS. It was during the 2024 World Ag Expo in Tulare, California. The device is an evolution of the autonomous sprayer launched in 2023, allowing farmers to control multiple pieces of equipment remotely.
Electric GUSS incorporates a weed detection system that identifies chlorophyll and sprays only the affected areas. This technology can reduce material use by up to 90%, depending on weed infestation, lowering operating costs and increasing sustainability and worker safety.
Equipped with Kriesel batteries, the sprayer can operate for a full shift when charged, according to information from the companies. Utilizes GPS, LiDAR and proprietary technology for accurate coverage. A single employee can operate and monitor up to eight GUSS machines from one vehicle using a laptop, reducing exposure to risk.
The sprayer design, measuring 7,16 meters long, 1,93 meters high and with an operating width of 2,54 to 5,79 meters, includes spray booms that are height adjustable and capable of tilting for shoulder spraying. The bars have a release system to prevent damage to trees and crops.
The Electric GUSS will be available to order at select John Deere dealers in North America and Australia. Additionally, diesel-powered Orchard GUSS and mini GUSS standalone sprayers can now be equipped with the Smart Apply Intelligent Spray Control System, acquired by John Deere in 2023. This system automatically adjusts spray volume based on spray size and density. tree foliage, optimizing protection and avoiding excessive application, saving up to 50% on chemicals and water.
