First coffee harvester produced in the world turns 40
Developed in Brazil, with Brazilian research and technologies, the equipment definitively marked the mechanization of coffee cultivation
With versatile features to meet different coffee processing needs, the Jacto DJB-20S, presented by Jacto at Expocafé 2019, is a battery-powered sprayer and doser that provides working autonomy and increased operational productivity. The equipment also allows connection via Bluetooth with the cell phone.
The Jacto DJB-20S comes to expand the company's portfolio of battery-powered backpack sprayers and dosers, combining comfort and technology, as the operator stops carrying out the pumping effort and focuses on locating the targets, thus having an application with more quality. With this launch, the company begins a new era in the segment.
In coffee cultivation, the equipment can be used for several functions: spraying herbicides (catching invasive plants), spraying foliar products (fungicides, insecticides, foliar fertilizers) and applying products via drench to the root of the plant (systemic products, fertilizers liquids and biological/rooters).
In the herbicide spraying function, the equipment reduces drift, and consequently product waste, by regulating the pressure and consequently reducing the application volume. It is possible to reduce the application volume by up to 30%.
In the insecticide/fungicide spraying function, it is possible to increase the probability of penetration and coverage of droplets on the plant by selecting the maximum spray pressure, which reaches close to 60 psi (4 bar), in addition to maintaining constant spraying, consequently improving homogeneity /application quality.
When applying products via drench to the root of the plant, one of the factors to be analyzed is the precision and repeatability of the applied dose. In this sense, the equipment has accuracy of 1 each decimal (0,1 ml) of the dose through calibration using the application. In terms of repeatability, it is possible to apply the same dose selected at the beginning of the day until the end of the day, eliminating the need to calibrate the dose throughout the day.
“Another great advantage of the equipment is the Bluetooth connection between the equipment and the cell phone, which allows the operator to configure the equipment, standardizing the dosages, pressure and flow of the product to be applied, in addition to selecting the type of application considering the spacing between the plants. At the end of the work, a report is generated with information about the operation, similar to the telemetry services that are offered in large machines”, explains the product specialist at Jacto, portable products unit, Iago Reis de Oliveira.
Another operation for coffee, pruning, is made easier with the Jacto PR-40, a battery-powered pruner that has 7 internal sensors, enabling progressive cutting with extreme force and precision.
The electric pruning shears are light and ergonomic, allowing the work to be done up to three times faster when compared to a manual pruner at the end of the working day. Mainly used in fruit orchards, it is capable of cutting thin and thick branches with ease, precision and agility, reducing operational time and increasing the quality of pruning.
Among its differences are its high-resistance titanium-coated steel blade that can be opened to two cutting diameters: up to 20 or 40 mm. The closing of this blade is progressive, activated by an electronic trigger, which guarantees a precise, burr-free cut. The battery is Lithium-ion, which offers the possibility of long working hours with up to 20.000 cuts of autonomy per full battery charge. To expand its use, the equipment has an optional accessory, a telescopic extension rod, with height adjustment that varies from 1,20 to 2,0 m for cuts in taller plants.
