Brazilian soybean and corn exports break records, but producers still hold back sales
In the final stretch of the 2024/2025 cotton harvest, performance in Bahia is above what was initially projected by the Bahian Cotton Producers Association (ABAPA). The downward trend was reversed at the end of the cycle, with productivity reaching nearly 2,000 kilograms of processed cotton (lint) per hectare, compared to the approximately 1,800 kilograms estimated in July.
The state is expected to harvest around 816,3 thousand tons, an increase of 3,6% compared to what was previously announced.
The figures were presented by the president of Abapa, Alessandra Zanotto Costa, during the 80th Ordinary Meeting of the Sector Chamber of the Cotton and Derivatives Production Chain, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, last Tuesday (23), with representatives from other producing states and various links in the fiber production chain.
The Sector Chamber is chaired by the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa).
According to the national association, this harvest, the country continues to break record after record, and, for the first time in history, it is expected to surpass four million tons of fiber.
Brazilian production will solidify the country's position as a global export leader, accounting for 30,5% of global trade, ahead of the United States (25,8%). In September, the main destinations for Brazilian cotton were Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey.
To date, the Abapa Fiber Analysis Center, responsible for assessing the quality of cotton from Bahia and the Matopiba region, has already processed around 64% of the total expected for the harvest, which represents approximately 2,6 million bales.
Quality remained as expected, with improvements in parameters such as resistance and micronaire.
