The Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga) recently held its traditional Field Day at the Rice Experimental Station in Cachoeirinha, bringing together producers, technicians and authorities from the agricultural sector. In total, 1.200 people participated in this edition.
With the theme “the resilience of lowland production systems”, the activity highlighted the importance of adapting agricultural systems to face climate and environmental challenges. With technical stations and workshops, visitors were presented with the main practices for managing different crops in synchrony, the main advances in agriculture in terms of sustainability, a presentation of Irga genetics, among others.
The Field Day was marked by the launch of the RS14 Rice System, an innovation that promises to revolutionize rice production in Rio Grande do Sul. According to Luiz Fernando Siqueira, manager of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Division, the RS14 Rice System consists of a set of practices and technologies that aim to increase the efficiency and sustainability of production. “It will help increase the efficiency and sustainability of rice production, which is essential for the future of the sector,” says Siqueira.
For Rodrigo Warlet Machado, president of Irga, the Field Day highlights the institute’s commitment to research and extension. “Irga has always been a protagonist and we are returning this perception,” explains Machado, highlighting the institution’s commitment to sustainability and good environmental practices.
The manager thanked the support of the State Government, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi), the entities, supporters and employees who worked on the Field Day. “Once again, the Field Day was a success, fulfilling its role: presenting the work developed by the entity to producers,” said the president.
Learning Day
Producer Pedro Paulo Barbosa, from Palmares do Sul, traveled about 6 hours to participate in the event. Despite the distance, the producer believes that participating in the Field Day is important to improve farming practices. “It is a day of learning, I always learn from Irga’s activities,” says the producer.
The councilor of the municipality and producer from Cacequi, Paulinho Meneguetti, faced almost 7 hours of travel to be present at the activity. “It is always worth participating in the Field Days, producers cannot miss it, because here we always learn new things”, says Meneguetti.
