2024/25 soybean harvest in Mato Grosso faces climate and logistical challenges
Lack of infrastructure is one of the main obstacles for the agricultural sector
An action carried out by inspectors from the Agricultural Defense Institute (Indea) and agents from the Civil Police resulted in the seizure of 99 gallons of pesticides in a grocery store in Matupá, a city located 683 km from Cuiabá. The material, with 1.980 liters of products for agricultural use, was found without identification, without an invoice and without origin.
The inspection revealed that the seized gallons were unlabeled and stored in inadequate conditions. Furthermore, the establishment did not have the necessary authorization to sell the product.
Indea agronomist Alex Sandro Lopes explained that current legislation, both state and national, requires that the trade and storage of pesticides be carried out safely, in order to avoid damage to the environment and risks to human health.
The owner of the grocery store was taken to the police station and fined 1.000 Fiscal Standard Units (UPFs), which corresponds to R$245.150,00. The seized material was sent to a company authorized to store pesticides, where it will remain in custody until the product's destination is decided.
