Seven teams, made up of agricultural engineers and agricultural technicians from the Agricultural Defense Coordination (CDA) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA) carried out a task force aimed at combating HBL (Greening), one of the greatest threats to citrus farming. On the occasion, the teams visited the regions of Avaré, Itapeva and Mogi Mirim and inspected 3.370.627 (three million, three hundred and seventy thousand, six hundred and twenty-seven) plants in orchards on 48 properties.

“Continuing with the actions to combat Greening, we began work in 2025 on regional properties where we noticed the lack of delivery of the biannual Cancro/Greening report, which had its deadline ended on January 15th”, comments Danilo Romão, manager of the State Program for Present Quarantine Pests (PEPQP).

“In this way, we took advantage of the conference of documentation related to the orchards with the producers and carried out the inspection of the plants, an action that aims to identify symptomatic plants that have not been eradicated in orchards that are less than 8 years old, in addition to identifying nymphs of the psyllid, the insect that carries the disease”, adds the manager.

The action issued 48 notifications and from these, producers have a deadline to improve the management and control of the insect vector in order to reduce its incidence in the orchards, thus reducing the transmission of the disease.

“These are actions and measures that aim to maintain the health of the São Paulo citrus park and keep São Paulo as the largest fruit production hub in the country,” reinforces Danilo.
