Inoculants bring new perspectives to bean cultivation

For the Viittia Group, based in São Joaquim da Barra (SP), beans, an obligatory ingredient on the Brazilian table, are also proving to be a great dish for the inoculants segment. The crop, widely present in states such as Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Paraná, makes extensive use of nitrogen fertilization but is also beginning to make room for inoculants for biological nitrogen fixation.

“Our big challenge now is to gain the farmer’s trust in relation to the advantages and cost-benefit of applying the inoculant to bean crops”, says the manager of this product segment at the Vittia Group, Viviane C. Martins Bordignon. Although the efficiency of this process is not yet at the same level as that achieved with soybeans, the results of research and, mainly, of coinoculation in the last five bean harvests are positive and open up good perspectives.

With the application of Biomax Feijão and Biomax Azum (coinoculation technology - use of two or more bacteria), productivity exceeded 3 thousand kg/ha of beans, a number higher than that achieved with nitrogen fertilization. In addition to better profitability, it also presents the advantage of environmental sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
