The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) today concluded the weather forecast for the next two weeks. In the first, between the 20th and 27th of May, the week may present rainfall that could exceed 60 millimeters (mm) - shades in orange -, in areas of the North and Northeast Regions. This is due to the combination of heat and high humidity that continues to influence instability in the regions and cause intense rains.

Forecast for the 1st week (20/05/2024 to 27/05/2024):

Figure 1 shows the forecast of accumulated rain between May 20th and 27th. According to the numerical model from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the week could see rainfall accumulations that could exceed 60 mm (shades in orange), mainly in areas of the North and Northeast Regions. This is due to the combination of heat and high humidity that continues to influence instability in the regions. In areas of the South Region, a frontal system should favor the occurrence of significant volumes of rain.

North region: The combination of heat and high humidity will cause rain showers throughout the week, with amounts greater than 60,0 mm in areas of north-central Amazonas and Pará, as well as in the states of Roraima and Amapá. In other areas, isolated rain showers with minor accumulations cannot be ruled out.

Northeast Region: there is a forecast of rain especially between the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Pernambuco from Thursday, the 23rd. Instabilities in these areas are caused due to the transport of moisture from the ocean to the continent, which will favor the occurrence of rain, being able to exceed 40 mm. Isolated rain showers cannot be ruled out in areas of the northern range, from Maranhão to Rio Grande do Norte. While in the interior of the region, the forecast is for hot weather and no rain.

Midwest region: hot and dry weather will prevail at least until Wednesday, but from Thursday the advance of a frontal system over Mato Grosso do Sul and southern Mato Grosso could cause rain in these areas, in addition to a sharp decline in temperatures .

Southeast region: the weather will be hot and dry, except in areas of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro where there will be quick and temporary rains. In Espírito Santo, the forecast is for isolated rain showers later in the week.

South region: the week starts with good weather and no rain, but from the 22nd, areas of instability associated with low pressure that advances towards the northeast of Argentina and west of Rio Grande do Sul, will give rise to a frontal system on the 23rd, causing intense rains in Rio Grande do Sul, which may be accompanied by lightning and gusts of wind. This system will move across the region and should also influence areas of the Central-West and Southeast Regions in the following days.

Forecast for the 2st week (28/05/2024 to 0/06/2024)

Figure 2 presents the rain forecast for the second week, between May 28th and June 05th, 2024. According to the numerical forecast model, the week may present volumes of rain greater than 70 mm in the north of the Region North and east coast of the Northeast Region.

North region: The largest rainfall accumulations should occur in the north center of Amazonas and Pará, in addition to areas in the west of Acre, Roraima and Amapá, with accumulations that could exceed 60 mm. In other areas, volumes must be less than 40 mm.

Northeast Region: The forecast is for rain in the form of showers that could exceed 60 mm in coastal areas. In areas close to the coast, isolated rain showers with smaller accumulations cannot be ruled out. And the interior of the region, hot and dry weather.

Midwest Regions e Southeast: The forecast is for dry and hot weather, except in the east of the Southeast Region, where rapid and temporary rains may occur, with volumes of less than 50 mm.

South region: The forecast is for dry and hot weather, except in the east of the region, where quick and temporary rains may occur.
