Inmet: weather forecast between March 04th and March 20th, 2024

Between the 4th and 11th of March, the week could see large amounts of rain, which could exceed 60 millimeters in much of the country

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has concluded the weather forecast for the next two weeks. In the first, between March 4th and 11th, the week may see large amounts of rain. They could exceed 60 millimeters in a large part of the country, due to the combination of heat and high humidity, in addition to the action of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ZCIT), which will influence instability in the center-north of Brazil, causing intense rains.

Forecast for the 1st week (4/03/2024 to 11/03/2024)

North region: Rain showers are expected throughout the week, with amounts greater than 50 millimeters (mm) in practically the entire region, but mainly in areas of Amazonas, Pará, south of Roraima and north of Tocantins, which may be accompanied by lightning, gusts wind and thunderstorms. In other areas, isolated rain showers with smaller accumulations cannot be ruled out. In the north of Roraima, there is no rain forecast.

Northeast Region: In the center-north of the region, rain showers are forecast, which could be locally heavy and volumes exceeding 70 mm cannot be ruled out. In other areas, isolated rain showers may occur in smaller accumulations.

Midwest Regions e Southeast: in most regions, rain showers greater than 70 mm are predicted, which may be locally strong in the center-south of Minas Gerais, northwest of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, south of Espírito Santo and Goiás, which may be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind and thunderstorms, due to the convergence of humidity. In other areas, there is a forecast of rain with lower accumulations.

South region: The week begins with rain showers in the northeast of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and western Paraná, which could exceed 70 mm, due to the advance of a frontal system moving towards the ocean. In other areas, lower accumulations are expected.

Forecast for the 2st week (12/03/2024 to 20/03/2024)

In the second week, between March 12th and 20th, 2024, the week may present rainfall volumes greater than 70 mm in a large part of the country (figure 2).

North region: Accumulations greater than 50 mm are predicted, but mainly in areas of Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia, Amapá, southern Pará and Tocantins. In other areas, rainfall volumes of less than 30 mm are forecast.

Northeast Region: the forecast is for rain in the form of showers that could exceed 80 mm in the northern part of the region and could be locally heavy in areas of Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande Norte, west and south of Bahia, in addition to the east coast and hinterland of Paraíba and Pernambuco. In other areas, lower rainfall accumulations are expected.

Midwest Regions e Southeast: Rain showers are forecast in all states, but they could be locally heavy in areas of Mato Grosso, Federal District, Goiás, north-central Minas Gerais and northern Espírito Santo. In other areas, the forecast is for lower rainfall accumulations.

South region: the forecast is for rainfall greater than 50 mm in all states. However, little rain is forecast for the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul.
