Inmet: weather forecast between January 8th and 16th, 2024

In the first week, between the 8th and 15th of January, the forecast indicates significant amounts of rain, which could exceed 80 millimeters in part of the country

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) concluded, this Monday (8), the weather forecast for the next two weeks. In the first, between the 8th and 15th of January, the forecast indicates significant volumes of rain, which could exceed 80 millimeters (mm) - red and pink tones on the map in figure 1 - in part of the country, considering a strip from the west from the North Region, passing through the Central-West to the east of the Southeast Region. 

In the interior of the Northeast region, the forecast is for little rain (blue color on the map in figure 1). However, in Matopiba (an area that covers the states of Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia), more significant rainfall may occur.

Forecast for the 1st week (08/01/2024 to 15/01/2024):

For Northern Region, rain showers are forecast during the week, with amounts greater than 70 mm in Amazonas, Rondônia, Pará, northeast of Amapá and Tocantins, which may be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind and thunderstorms. In other areas, isolated rain showers are forecast (blue tones on the map).

Na North East Region, the forecast is for rain in the form of showers in areas of Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia, which could exceed 50 mm and be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind and thunderstorms. However, isolated rain cannot be ruled out in the east of the region, mainly in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Pernambuco. In Ceará, there is a possibility of rain in the southwest of the state.

In most regions Midwest e Southeast, intense rains are predicted and volumes of 100 mm to 150 mm cannot be ruled out, which may be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind and thunderstorms. In Espírito Santo, north of Minas Gerais and center-south of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, there is a forecast of rain with lower accumulations.

Na South, a low pressure system will favor instability in the form of rain showers until January 13th. The largest accumulations may exceed 01 mm in central areas of Rio Grande do Sul, east of Santa Catarina and Paraná. After the 60th, the tendency is for rain volumes to reduce in the region.

In the second week, between the 16th and 24th of January, there is a forecast of significant volumes of rain, greater than 80 millimeters (mm), in the central portion of the country due to a possible formation of a moisture channel from the Amazon to areas of the region Southeast. 

In the northern part of the country, little rain is expected.

Forecast for the 2st week (16/01/2024 to 24/01/2024):

For Northern Region Accumulations greater than 60 mm are predicted in western Amazonas, southern Acre, Tocantins, central-southern Pará and central-northern Amapá. In other areas, the forecast is volumes of less than 50 mm.

In much of the North East Region, the forecast is for rain in the form of showers that could exceed 50 mm in areas of Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia. However, on the coast, isolated rains with smaller accumulations cannot be ruled out.

Na South, the forecast is for rainfall accumulations greater than 60 mm in Paraná, Santa Catarina and western Rio Grande do Sul. With lower rainfall forecasts in southern Rio Grande do Sul.
