The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) concluded today (7) the weather forecast for the next two weeks. In the first, between the 7th and 14th of August 2023, the largest accumulations are predicted in the northwest of the country, in addition to areas in the South Region (shades of green to red on the map in figure 1).

In most parts of the country, especially in central and interior areas of the Northeast Region, high temperatures, dry weather and low humidity are expected to prevail throughout practically the entire week (white tones on the map in figure 1).

Check out the detailed weather forecast for each region of Brazil for the next two weeks below.

Forecast for the 1st week (07/08/2023 to 14/08/2023):

North region: Rainfall volumes greater than 30 millimeters (mm) are predicted in the east of the region and may exceed 50 mm in areas of northwestern Amazonas and Acre, due to the heat and high humidity. In other areas, such as Rondônia, Pará and Tocantins, dry weather and no rain will predominate.

Northeast Region: Low accumulated rainfall may occur, which should not exceed 30 mm on the east coast of the region, especially on the south coast of Bahia, due to the transport of moisture from the ocean. In other areas, such as Matopiba (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia) and the interior and north of the region, the weather will remain hot and dry throughout the week.

Midwest and Southeast Regions: the persistence of a mass of dry hot air will leave the weather stable and without rain in practically the entire region. Furthermore, low relative humidity values may be recorded, reaching values below 20%, mainly between the states of Mato Grosso, Goiás and the Federal District. However, on the coast of the Southeast Region, there will be increased cloudiness and the possibility of low rainfall accumulations due to the action of a frontal system (cold front) in the ocean.

South region: The action of a cold front at the beginning of the week, followed by the persistence of areas of instability after the passage of the frontal system, will cause rainfall accumulations that could exceed 30 mm in Rio Grande do Sul and southern Santa Catarina. These volumes of rain could be even greater, exceeding 80 mm, in areas in the north of Rio Grande do Sul. Low volumes of rain may occur in the south of Paraná, also due to areas of instability. In the extreme north of the state, dry weather and no rain are forecast for much of the week.

In the second week, between the 15th and 22nd of August 2023, the week may present large amounts of rain greater than 40 millimeters (mm) in areas in the east of the South Region, in addition to areas in the northwest of the country and between the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.

In much of Central Brazil and the interior of the Northeast, dry weather and no rain are expected throughout the week. See figure 2.

Forecast for the 2st week (15/08/2023 to 22/08/2023):

North region: Accumulated rainfall is expected to exceed 50 mm in the northwest of Amazonas and west of Roraima. In other areas in the east of the region, low volumes of rain, less than 50 mm, may occur. In other areas, there is no rain forecast.

Northeast Region: in turn, low accumulated rainfall of less than 20 mm is predicted in coastal areas of the east coast. In Matopiba (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia), north and in the interior of the region, there is no rain forecast, with dry weather predominating.

Midwest and Southeast Regions: dry weather is forecast for practically the entire week, with the exception of areas of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, where rainfall volumes greater than 20 mm may occur. However, in areas of the northwest of Mato Grosso, low volumes of rain, less than 20 mm, may occur.

South region: there is a forecast of accumulated rainfall greater than 30 mm in much of the region and which could exceed 70 mm in areas in the east of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. However, in areas in the southwest of Rio Grande do Sul and the extreme north of Paraná, volumes may be less than 20 mm.
