Inmet: weather forecast between August 28st and September 13th, 2023

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has concluded the weather forecast for the next two weeks.

In the first, between August 28th and September 4th, the largest accumulations are expected in areas of the northwest and south of the country (figure 1), in addition to areas of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, North of Minas Gerais and the border between the states of Goiás, Distrito Federal and Minas Gerais.

In the central portion of Brazil, the interior of the Northeast Region and the south of the North Region, high temperatures, dry weather and low humidity are expected to predominate practically throughout the week.

In the second week, between September 5th and 13th, 2023, the week may present large amounts of rain greater than 60 millimeters (mm) in areas of the South and East of the Northeast Region of the country (figure 2).

In much of Central Brazil and the interior of the Northeast, dry weather and no rain are forecast throughout the week.

Forecast from August 28th to September 4th

• North region: Rainfall volumes greater than 50 millimeters (mm) are predicted in the northwest of Amazonas, due to the heat and high humidity. In other areas, dry weather and no rain predominate.

• Northeast Region: there is a forecast of dry weather without rain, in addition to low relative humidity values, mainly in areas of Matopiba (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia) and the interior of the region. There is a possibility of rain on the east coast of the region, especially on the coast of Bahia.

• Midwest region: the persistence of a mass of hot and dry air will leave the weather stable and without rain in practically the entire region, with the exception of the border between the states of Goiás and the Federal District, where occasional rainfall greater than 30 mm is expected.

Furthermore, low relative humidity values ​​may be recorded between the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

• Southeast region: the weather will also be dry and without rain, mainly in São Paulo and the south of Minas Gerais. In these areas, low relative humidity values ​​of less than 30% can be recorded. In areas of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and northeastern Minas Gerais, rainfall amounts greater than 30 mm may occur.

• South region: The forecast is for dry weather and no rain at the beginning of the week. However, the arrival of a new cold front, starting on September 2nd, will intensify areas of instability that will cause rainfall accumulations that can exceed 50 millimeters (mm) in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul and the west and south of Santa Catarina. In the north of Paraná, dry weather and no rain are forecast for much of the week.

Forecast from September 5th to 13th

• North region: Accumulations greater than 30 mm are predicted in Acre and the extreme west of the region. In other areas of the region, there is no forecast of accumulated rain.

• Northeast Region: Low accumulated rainfall is forecast in the eastern part of the region. In areas of Matopiba (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia), the north and interior of the region, there is no forecast of rain with a predominance of stable and dry weather.

• Central-West and Southeast Regions: dry weather is forecast for practically the entire week, except in the east of São Paulo, which may exceed 25 mm.

• South region: there is a forecast of significant rainfall accumulations, greater than 70 mm, in areas between Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. In other areas, accumulated lows of less than 20 mm may occur.
