Between the 1st and 8th of April, the week could see large amounts of rain, which could exceed 80,0 millimeters

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) today concluded the weather forecast for the next two weeks. In the first, between the 1st and 8th of April, the week could present large amounts of rain, which could exceed 80,0 millimeters (mm) - shades in red in figure 1 - especially in the center-north of the country, due to the combination heat and high humidity, in addition to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which continue to influence instability in the extreme north of Brazil, causing intense rains. 

Forecast for the 1st week (01/04/2024 to 17/04/2024):

North region: Rain showers are expected throughout the week, with values ​​greater than 80,0 (mm) in practically the entire region and, mainly, in areas of Amazonas, Pará, Roraima, Rondônia and Tocantins, which may be accompanied by lightning, gusts wind and thunderstorms. In other areas, isolated rain showers with minor accumulations cannot be ruled out.

Northeast Region: In a large part of the region, rain showers are forecast, which may be locally heavy, mainly in the center-north of the region, with volumes exceeding 70,0 mm. In the south of Bahia, isolated rain showers may occur in smaller accumulations.

Midwest region: During the week, rain is expected to be a little more regular in part of the region. In Mato Grosso, total rainfall may exceed 80,0 mm. On the other hand, in other states, rain is expected to be irregular, with a total of around 40 mm.

Southeast region: The forecast is for hot and dry weather. However, at the end of the week, isolated rain showers are forecast in the northeast of Minas Gerais.

South region: The week begins with a storm in the center-south of Rio Grande do Sul, which may be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind, thunderstorms and possible hail. However, from 07/04 onwards, hotter and drier weather is forecast.

In the second week, between April 09th ​​and 17th, 2024, the week may have a rainfall volume greater than 70,0 mm in a large part of the country (figure 2).

Forecast for the 2st week (09/04/2024 to 17/04/2024):

North region: Accumulations greater than 70,0 mm are predicted in a large part of the region, mainly in areas of Amazonas, Roraima, Amapá, Pará and Tocantins. In other areas, rainfall volumes of less than 50,0 mm are forecast.

Northeast Region: the forecast is for rain in the form of showers, which could be locally heavy and exceed 80,0 mm in the interior of the region. In other areas, lower rainfall accumulations are expected.

Midwest Regions e Southeast: Rain showers are forecast, which could be locally heavy and exceed 80,0 mm in much of the region. The rain is expected to be more intense in the states of Goiás, Distrito Federal, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In other areas, the forecast is for less rainfall.

South region: On the east coast of the region, the forecast is for rain greater than 50,0 mm, especially in Paraná and Santa Catarina. In Rio Grande do Sul, the forecast is for lower volumes.
