How to minimize damage from delayed cotton planting
Rains in recent weeks make sowing difficult in Mato Grosso; there are alternatives to deal with the problems
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) published today (3/2) the weather forecast for February 3-10, 2025. According to the Cosmo numerical model, there will be rain in almost the entire country, with accumulations during the week that may exceed 50 mm in the North, Central-West, south of the Southeast and north-central regions of the South, in addition to the northwest and coast of the Northeast. On the other hand, in Roraima, east-central Northeast, north-central Southeast and Rio Grande do Sul, the tendency is for rainfall to occur with accumulations below 20 mm.
Na Northern Region, the instabilities associated with heat and high humidity will cause rain showers throughout the week, with accumulations above 50 mm (green tones) in much of the region. Rainfall may exceed 80 mm (red to pink tones) in specific areas of the north and southwest of Amazonas. The positioning of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) further south will cause accumulations above 100 mm in the northeast of Pará and in specific areas of Amapá. On the other hand, in much of Roraima and northwest of Pará, rainfall accumulations are expected to be below 10 mm (blue areas).
Na North East Region, the action of the ITCZ in its southernmost position will favor precipitation in the north of the Region, with accumulations above 100 mm expected for the north of Maranhão, Piauí and the coast of Ceará. During the next few days, the displacement of the Upper Level Cyclonic Vortex (VCAN) towards the continent will influence precipitation in the region, causing rains on its edges, acting mainly in some areas of the coast, interior and west of the region, and may locally cause storms with intense rains and strong winds.
Na Midwest region, the combination of heat, humidity and moisture convergence will favor the persistence of areas of instability in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and central-western Goiás, with accumulations above 60 mm. In some locations in the southeast and northeast of Mato Grosso and northern Mato Grosso do Sul, rainfall may be more intense, exceeding 80 mm.
Na Southeast, the combination of heat, humidity and atmospheric instability will favor rain throughout the week in São Paulo and central-western Minas Gerais, with accumulations between 30 and 60 mm, exceeding 80 mm in areas of eastern São Paulo. In São Paulo and areas of the Minas Gerais triangle, the forecast indicates a risk of heavy rain at the beginning of this week, with rain showers that may be locally heavy.
Na South, the combination of heat and humidity will favor the formation of instabilities, with precipitation accumulations above 50 mm in Paraná and Santa Catarina. In some areas of northern Paraná and western Santa Catarina, accumulations may exceed 150 mm (red tones). In the south of Rio Grande do Sul, accumulations will have lower volumes, however, temperatures will be high.
