Inmet's forecast for the week of December 16 to 23 indicates that accumulated rainfall volumes may exceed 50 mm in much of the Southeast, North-Central South, Central-West and North regions of the country (represented in shades of yellow in Figure 1). On the other hand, in the north of the North Region and in much of the Northeast, rainfall is expected to be below 20 mm or there may be areas without significant precipitation.

Na Northern Region, areas of instability associated with heat and high humidity will cause rain showers throughout the week, with accumulations above 30 mm (green tones) and 50 mm (yellow tones) in much of the region. However, in northern Pará and much of Roraima, rainfall accumulations are expected to be below 10 mm. Rainfall may exceed 100 mm in some locations (red to pink tones) in central-western Amazonas, western Acre and in specific areas of southern Pará and Tocantins. In Amapá, the action of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may cause accumulations above 100 mm.

Na North East Region, the forecast indicates that in the eastern and northern strip of the region, there is a possibility of light rain, while in most of the interior, the weather should remain hot and with a low probability of rain. In the west of Bahia and southwest of Maranhão, accumulations below 20 mm are expected.

Na Midwest region, the instabilities will persist, providing rain throughout the week and will be significant in Mato Grosso do Sul, in a large part of Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul, with expected accumulations above 40 mm (shades of green), which could reach 100 mm in some locations (shades of red).

Na Southeast, there will be spatial variation in rainfall throughout the week due to the instabilities caused by the system over the ocean. The week will begin with rain in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and northern São Paulo, remaining throughout the week. This condition will favor large accumulations of rain, above 100 in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. In São Paulo, the weather starts out stable, however, from December 20th, new instabilities will provide significant rainfall until the end of the week, with expected accumulations of up to 80 mm in some areas of the northeast of the state.

Na South, the week will start with rainy weather in the east of the Region and will remain stable in the following days. However, from December 20th, new instabilities will form and will provide significant rainfall in Santa Catarina, Paraná and north-central Rio Grande do Sul. The highest accumulations for the week are forecast for Paraná and Santa Catarina, with volumes that could exceed 40 mm.
