A cold front associated with the formation of a new extratropical cyclone is forming this Thursday (17) in the coastal region between Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay. According to Inmet, strong winds are expected over the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with risks of electricity cuts, damage to crops, falling trees and flooding.

According to the alert issued by the institute, the most affected areas will be Southwest Rio-grandense, Western Center Rio-grandense, Southeast Rio-grandense, Metropolitan Porto Alegre, Northwest Rio-grandense and Eastern Center Rio-grandense. There is a risk of hail, rainfall between 30 and 60 mm/h and intense winds, of 60 to 100 km/h in some locations.

Instructions

To minimize risks, Inmet indicates that, in case of gusts of wind, shelter under trees should be avoided, due to the risk of falling and electrical discharges. Furthermore, it is important to turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply. More information can be obtained from Civil Defense (telephone 199) and the Fire Department (telephone 193).
