In communication to shareholders, FMC highlights Rynaxypyr, Fluindapyr and Cyazypyr

FMC disclosed its business strategies to shareholders. It is part of the obligations of companies that trade shares publicly on the stock exchange. At the moment, it has 23 new active ingredients in research and 11 in development. More than 18 of these molecules have new modes of action. Its emphasis was on rynaxypyr, cyazypyr and fluindapyr.

The company highlighted the launch of the Coragen Max insecticide in Canada; the herbicide Boral Full (Brazil); and the fungicide Onsuva in Argentina and Paraguay. These products generated about $100 million in sales in 2022, according to the release.

Although some products were presented as new, this description may not be ideal.

Rynaxypyr, for example, is a brand. Its active ingredient is known as chlorantraniliprole. This is a product developed by DuPont (currently Corteva) for the control of several classes of pests (Lepidoptera; Coleoptera; Diptera; Isoptera). In the United States, it has been registered since 2008. Interestingly, its first registration request in Brazil was temporary for ant control -- and carried out by Syngenta (2013). Its transfer to FMC occurred due to a determination by competition control bodies due to the merger between Dow and DuPont (origin of Corteva).

Ao cyazypyr In summary, the same thing applies to rynaxypyr (chlorantraniliprole). However, its active ingredient is cyantraniliprole (from the same class as chlorantraniliprole). It was also purchased from DuPont.

In turn, the totality of rights over the fungicide fluindopyr was acquired by FMC in 2020 for US$65 million. The product was developed jointly by it and the Italian Isagro S.p.A under a 2012 agreement (here e here). Based on fluindopyr, FMC launched the fungicide Onsuva in 2022 in Argentina and Paraguay. Its target is diseases in soybeans and peanuts.

In Brazil, there are several applications for registration of commercial products based on this molecule. For example: Ferus, Rustop and Erthos.

Fun fact: Isagro S.p.A was purchased by the American Gowan Company LLC in 2021. As a result, Isagro Brasil Comércio de Produtos Agroquímicas Ltda was incorporated by Gowan Produtos Agrícolas Ltda (whose shares belong to the British Crop Demetra Limited, which belongs to the American Gowan Company LLC ).

Acquisition and products

In June 2022, FMC announced the acquisition of BioPhero ApS, a Danish pheromone research and production company, for around US$193 million. The purchase adds biological insect control technology using pheromones to its portfolio.

Additionally, the company continues to invest through its venture capital firm, FMC Ventures, which aims to invest in startups and early-stage companies that are developing and applying emerging technologies in the agricultural industry.
