In July this year, 2.227.392 tons were handled for import in the ports of Paraná, 49% more than the total reached in the same period in 2023 (1.494.748 tons). Fertilizers had the highest volume, rising from 623.831 tons last year to 918.321 tons in 2024 (47%).
“The attractive price of the commodity and the heated agro market allowed these high movement numbers, consolidating Paraná as the main gateway for fertilizers in Brazil”, explained the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
Containers accounted for the second largest import volume, rising from 332.042 TEUs (measured for 20 feet of container length) to 444.546 TEUs (+34%). Electronics, chemicals and automotive products led demand.
Oil derivatives are in third place in the ranking of import volume in the month. From 273.173 tons in 2023, the commodity increased to 465.085 tons in 2024, showing a growth of 70%.
“The significant import numbers in July are the result of a trend that we noticed throughout the year”, commented the Director of Operations at Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira. Imports registered from January to July this year rose from 12.249.836 tons, in 2023, to 14.746.500 tons in 2024, an increase of 20%.
“The outlook is that fertilizer import numbers will remain high, considering the promise of a good performance for the next harvest in the country, which requires an even greater demand from the producer for the product”, pointed out the Director of Operations.
From January to June 2024, the ports of Paraná reached the mark of 33.780.236 tons handled, a historic record for handling in the first half of the year, 9% more compared to the same period in 2023 (30.898.006 tons). Imports grew the most, with a movement of 12.519.108 tons, 16% higher than in 2023 (10.755.875 tons).
