Public notice published for the selection of rural young people for exchange in Canada
The exchange period will be eight and a half months, starting in November, in Brazil, and ending in September 2025, in the Province of British Columbia
The Rio Grandense do Arroz Institute (Irga) and the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) will hold, on the 29th and 30th of July, the symposium “Impact of floods: recovery proposals and the next harvest”. The event will take place in the auditorium of the UFSM Rural Science Center. The lectures are open to the public and registrations can be made on the institute's website (https://ww2.irga.rs.gov.br/).
“Following the severe weather events that hit Rio Grande do Sul, at the end of April and May this year, the Central region of the State, characterized by intense rice farming activity, was heavily impacted by floods. Given this situation, we are organizing this symposium. Considering the scientific and technical importance of this event for the rice farming chain, we invite everyone to participate”, comments the institute’s technical director, Flávia Tomita.
The program will address the impacts of El Niño in 2023/24, impact diagnoses and recovery actions for affected areas, soil recovery actions, initiatives to promote more resilient agricultural activities, as well as new technologies for weed control in irrigated rice.
The rector of UFSM, Luciano Schuch, will participate as presenters of the symposium; Jossana Cera (Irga); Luiz Fernando Siqueira (Irga); Adalton Siqueira (agronomist) and Sanderlei Pereira (agronomist); Jair Buske (rural producer); Alan Kochenborg (agronomist); Ibanor Anghinoni (Irga); Emanuele Junges (IF Farroupilha); Filipe Selau Carlos (UFPel); Anderson Ruhoff (IPH - UFRGS); Fernando Meirelles (IPH - UFRGS); Jean Minella (UFSM); Enio Coelho (Irga); Marcelo Camardelli Rosa (Deputy Secretary of State for the Environment and Infrastructure); Aldo Merotto (UFRGS); Carlos Mariot (Irga) and Antônio da Luz (chief economist at Farsul).
