The expectation of the organization of the II World Congress on Crop-Livestock-Forestry Integration Systems – ILPF – (World Congress on Integrated Crop-Livestock-Forestry Systems) (II WCCLF) is to receive around 1.000 registrations by May 4th, when the event begins to be held completely virtually on May 4th and 5th.
Registrants will be able to submit scientific works until the end of this month, March 30th and must be related to 10 themes, including greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration, technology transfer for integrated systems; economic and social aspects and family farming.
“Up to two works per registration will be accepted. They must be written only in English, have a minimum of two pages and a maximum of six pages, with up to two figures and/or tables”, informs Lucimara Chiari, researcher at Embrapa Gado de Corte and executive secretary of the Organizing Committee. The researcher also warns that “the approved abstract will have the poster displayed in the restricted area of the event’s digital platform, and will be published in the proceedings of the II WCCLF”. Registrations are arriving from all over Brazil and abroad, said Chiari. “We are following it with great enthusiasm, believing that we will reach a larger audience than the 600st Congress, when we received around 4 participants”. The price for professionals is 150 reais and students pay only 75 reais. And there's a promotion: for every 10 paid group registrations, the 11th in the same category will be complimentary. The event will feature thematic panels and 30 lectures that will be given by Brazilian and foreign scientists and rural producers. The program includes debates in addition to the presentation of work digitally. The opening lecture of the Congress will be given by president Celso Moretti, from Embrapa, who will address: “Challenges for the future of ILPF in Brazil" and then the international presentation by professor Rattan Lal, from the American State University of Ohio, entitled: “ILPF and sustainable agriculture in the world.” The complete schedule of lectures can be found here.
ILPF is a production system that integrates three different activities: agriculture, livestock and forestry in the same area. The work can be carried out in a consortium, rotation or succession, as long as it is interactive and generates benefits for the system. Its adoption can happen by small, medium and large producers and in all Brazilian biomes.
The main advantages of ILPF include increased production of meat, milk, grains and wood; conserves the soil by improving its quality; promotes greater economic stability, sustainability in production and animal welfare; increases the net income of agribusiness; recovers degraded areas and two other major advantages: they mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the pressure to open new pasture areas.
ILPF adherence by farmers and ranchers has increased considerably in recent years. The quest is to solve pasture degradation, reduce environmental impacts and increase profitability per hectare. It is a global concern to keep agricultural areas productive and for this reason holding another international Congress becomes timely, important and necessary.
The II World Congress on Crop-Livestock-Forest Integration is organized by Mapa, Embrapa, Rede ILPF, Famasul, Semagro and the government of the State of MS.
