Ihara, a research and development company specializing in agricultural pesticides, brings to the market the insecticide Zeus, a product that offers a unique shock and residual effect and is efficient in controlling Sphenophorus levis, the sugarcane weevil, a pest with a high incidence of attacks in the sugarcane field. Zeus is also effective in controlling the leafhopper, which is present in practically all sugarcane regions in the country.

Soil pests are one of the main problems faced by farmers. These are insects that attack the plant's root system, generating significant losses in the sugarcane field. Sphenophorus levis, or sugarcane weevil, attacks the plant from its roots, with the larvae creating galleries in the stem region, generating an average of four to five generations per year.

"With Zeus' innovation, in controlling Sphenophorus that significantly affect the sugarcane field, causing losses of up to 25 tons of sugarcane per hectare per year, IHARA invested in an innovative technology, making it available to the production chain of sugarcane, an exclusive product that will contribute to increasing productivity and sustainability in the field by effectively controlling pests", highlights Felipe Sulzbach, Product Manager at Ihara.

Zeus is a systemic product applied directly to the soil, in the root region of the plant and is highly effective, reducing sugarcane weevil attacks by up to 60%. Furthermore, this solution allows for up to two more cuts of ratoon, increasing the longevity of the sugarcane fields. In addition to controlling Sphenophorus, Zeus also has indications for controlling the root leafhopper, which also causes significant damage to crops.
