Brazil exports 13,6 million bags of coffee in the year to May
Volume represents a drop of 19% compared to the same period in 2022 and reflects a slower start to the harvest and the little coffee remaining after two smaller harvests
ICL revealed a recent digital advance in the field of sustainable agriculture during the 11th edition of NutriExperts, an event aimed at agronomic consultants in Brazil and South America. The Crop Advisor platform was launched at it. Initially, soybean and corn crops will be the focus of the system. But there is a forecast of expansion next year to other crops, such as sugar cane and coffee.
The technology, unique in Brazil with a focus on plant nutrition, according to company information, promises to help farmers and consultants in the transition to low-carbon agriculture, providing personalized nutritional recommendations to improve crop productivity. Crop Advisor is a product of Agmatix, an Israeli startup belonging to ICL.
"Crop Advisor uses sophisticated algorithms, artificial intelligence and a vast amount of data, such as vegetative index, climatic conditions, soil types, cultivation history and crop information," he explained. João Augusto Pascoalino (pictured), digital services manager at ICL.
The innovative software integrates the "Plant Nutrition Carbon Footprint Optimizer" functionality, which offers users the opportunity to evaluate the carbon emissions of their nutritional recommendations and adapt them to minimize emissions, while meeting the nutritional requirements of crops.
“The exclusive functionality allows users to be aware of the carbon emissions of their respective crops’ nutritional recommendations and, at the same time, model nutritional recommendations in a more strategic way in terms of carbon emissions,” added Pascoalino.
To implement this technology, ICL has assembled a team of partners dedicated to supporting the adoption of sustainable practices in its operations. This initiative focuses on monitoring and measuring progress towards sustainable, low-carbon agriculture. Through this partnership, ICL hopes to ensure the production of high-quality crops with a low carbon footprint, promoting the reduction of the use of inputs and fuels.
According to the company, Crop Advisor stands out in the digital agriculture segment for five differentiators:
• Tool for diagnosing and monitoring crops based on real data for high performance of soybeans and corn.
• Parameterization for interpretation of proprietary soil and leaf analysis results.
• Recommendation for precise fertilization and foliar nutrition, best dose and positioning of products according to the phenological stage of the crops.
• Climate risk alerts personalized by culture and production environment.
• Measurement of economic (through ROI) and environmental (through CO2 emissions) sustainability.
