Canadian delegation discusses research partnerships at Embrapa Trigo
A delegation of Canadian scientists was at Embrapa Trigo (Passo Fundo, RS), on December 7th and 8th, for the Canada - Brazil Workshop on Cereals
In its incessant fight for the interests of the Bean production chain, the Brazilian Institute of Beans and Pulses (Ibrafe) held important meetings in recent weeks to discuss topics of interest to the sector. The president of Ibrafe, Marcelo Eduardo Lüders was in Brasília and participated in meetings aimed at promoting Feijão and Pulses.
In Brasília, the meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), the Brazilian Beans and Pulses Council (CBFP), the Brazilian Beans and Pulses Institute (Ibrafe), eleven entities that participate in the Sector Chamber of the Chain Feijão Production Chain and Secretary Ricardo Cavalcanti served to align demands to be prioritized in the National Bean Production Chain Plan, in February 2018.
The Beans and Pulses segment will be the second to experience such an organized process, like fruits. The plan will also cover Pulses, which are lentils, chickpeas and peas.
In the implementation of the National Beans Plan, the main bottlenecks in the sector will be identified, through a broad diagnosis that will also analyze production from a sociocultural perspective. This diagnosis will serve as a roadmap for projects aimed at organizing the production chain.
For the president of Ibrafe, this is an important step in defending the sector's demands. “The bean sector in Brazil is preparing for a qualitative and quantitative leap, taking care of domestic and global supplies without neglecting the sustainability guaranteed by conscious producers. From family farming to corporate production, the sector has been prepared over the last few years for the positive developments that will now accelerate.
The CBFP concept, bringing together the entities and the National Bean Plan, will provide the agility and visibility necessary for this important Brazilian agricultural sector.
The Beans and Pulses market, after serving our consumers, has great export potential, which could be tripled in relation to current values. The National Beans Plan can make it possible, for example, to work on bilateral agreements in parallel with the disclosure of the requirements that we have already met, from production traceability to the adaptation of strict governance standards in the production chain, which are fundamental to serving increasingly demanding consumers.
Producers
After the meeting with MAPA, the president of Ibrafe met with Bean producers, in Minas Gerais, to provide information about actions in favor of the chain. Other topics were also discussed, such as the commitment to increasing exports to China and India and the trip that will be promoted by Ibrafe to Gulfood, in Dubai, in February 2018.
The Institute is bringing together a select group of sector representatives who are interested in deepening their knowledge of the main Beans and Pulses markets in the world. The fair brings together around one hundred thousand people looking for new products and suppliers, uncovering new business opportunities, finding solutions to global challenges and staying up to date with the latest trends in consumer behavior.
China and India
Continuing its actions to promote exports, Ibrafe began negotiations with India to consolidate an agreement for greater security in Bean exports during a visit to the Indian Embassy. Within this agreement, transactions are expected to increase from 90 thousand tons to 250 thousand. This resolution would represent greater peace of mind for the producer, guaranteeing the flow of production.
The commercial attachés who will begin their activities in India and China in the coming months also contacted Ibrafe to align the expectations and demands of the sector and bring good business and benefits to the chain.
