Rice production in Goiás should increase by 17,7% compared to 2023, as shown in the July estimate from the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA), released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this week. The growth is higher than that observed in the national territory (1,9%).
The publication also indicates that the state should consolidate itself as the third largest producer of beans in the country, with an 11,1% share of national production. In the projection of the cereal, legume and oilseed harvest as a whole, Goiás production should exceed 31,4 million tons, placing the state in fourth place in the national ranking, with 10,5% of the total produced in the country.
In relation to the 2023 harvest, state production is expected to fall by 4,5%, mainly caused by climate problems. The decrease, however, is still below that observed at the national level (-5,5%).
Evaluating the results, the head of the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), Pedro Leonardo Rezende, highlights the importance of investments in infrastructure, technology and technical assistance aimed at strengthening agribusiness in the state.
“Goiás is facing the consequences of the climate challenges of 2023 and 2024, with productivity affected by the lack of rain and high temperatures, but thanks to the resilience and adaptability of our productive sector, we were able to guarantee results above the national average”, states.
Among the major regions, the Central-West is responsible for almost half of the production volume of cereals, legumes and oilseeds in the country, with 144,5 million tons (48,5%).
