Sugarcane crushing in the first half of January in the Center-South region totaled 1,11 million tons. In the same period, in the previous year, the quantity processed was 439,83 thousand tons. In the 2023/2024 harvest, crushing reached 645,38 million tons, compared to 542,83 million tons recorded in the same period in the 2022/2023 cycle – an increase of 18,89%.
Data from the Sugarcane Technology Center recorded, for the month of December, an agricultural yield of 81 tons of sugarcane per hectare, which represents an increase of 16% compared to the same period in the previous harvest cycle. In the 2023/2024 harvest, the indicator reaches the mark of 87,6 tons/ha, compared to 77,2 tons/ha in the 2022/2023 cycle.
In the first half of January, 25 production units operated in the Center-South region, including ten units processing sugarcane, seven companies that manufacture ethanol from corn and eight flex plants. In the same period, in the 22/23 harvest, 16 production units operated. At the end of the fortnight, two units close the grinding, while in total there are already 245 units. In the previous cycle, until January 16, 247 plants had finished their processing period. For the next fortnight, it is expected that four more production units will close the harvest.
The quality of the harvested raw material accumulated from the beginning of the harvest until the first half of January, measured in kg of ATR per ton of processed sugar cane, showed a reduction of 1,13% compared to the same period last year. agricultural cycle, reaching 139,55 kg of TRS per ton in this harvest.
Sugar production in the first half of January reached 48,26 thousand tons. In the accumulated since April 1st, the production of the sweetener totals 42,1 million tons, against 33,55 million tons in the previous cycle (+25,49%).
In the first half of January, 338,22 million liters (+62,41%) of ethanol were manufactured by units in the Center-South. Of the total volume produced, hydrated ethanol reached 214,23 million liters (+121,62%), while anhydrous ethanol production totaled 123,99 million liters (+11,12%). In the accumulated period since the beginning of the current agricultural cycle until January 16, biofuel production totals 31,79 billion liters (+14,79%), of which 19,01 billion are hydrated ethanol (+19,41%) and 12,78 .8,54 billion anhydrous (+XNUMX%).
Of the total ethanol production recorded in the first half of January, 83% came from corn, whose production was 280,70 million liters this year, against 187,01 million liters in the same period of the 22/23 cycle – an increase of 50,10%. In the accumulated since the beginning of the harvest, corn ethanol production reached 4,89 billion liters – an increase of 42,11% compared to the same period last year.
In the first fifteen days of 2024, ethanol sales totaled 1,36 billion liters, which represents an increase of 49,33% compared to the same period of the 22/23 harvest. The volume of anhydrous ethanol sold in the period was 510,94 million liters – an increase of 8,47% – while hydrated ethanol registered sales of 851,68 million liters – an increase of 92,91%.
In the domestic market, sales of hydrous ethanol in the first half of January totaled 796,17 million liters – a variation of 83,46% compared to last year. Despite this growth, departures in relation to the second half of December indicated a drop of 9,5%. The lower pace observed was expected due to the negative seasonal effect on the consumption of light fuels by which the month of January is traditionally characterized. The withdrawal of anhydrous ethanol, in turn, was 478,53 million liters – an increase of 5,49%.
Despite this higher sales rate at the beginning of the year, hydrated ethanol still remains competitive at the pumps in a large part of the national territory. Data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) show that the price relationship between hydrous and gasoline, in the last week from 14/01 to 20/01, a parity of 61,3% and a differential of R$ 2,16 per liter. This high competitiveness recorded in recent months was confirmed in preliminary fuel consumption data published by the ANP this week. The volume of hydrated ethanol consumed totaled 1,88 billion liters in the country, and resulted in a 24,2% share of hydrated ethanol in the total fuel consumed by the fleet of light vehicles – the highest rate in the last 21 months.
In the 23/24 harvest, ethanol sales total 25,31 billion liters, representing an increase of 8,25%. Hydrous comprises sales of 15,22 billion liters (+13,41%), while anhydrous 10,09 billion (+1,31%).
Data from B3, from January 1st to the 24th, indicates the issuance of 2,66 million credits issued. In possession of the obligated party of the RenovaBio program there are around 35,19 million decarbonization credits. This value considers the obligated party's transit stock in 2021 plus the credits acquired in 2022, 2023 and 2024, to date, subtracting the target actually met for the year 2022.
