The seeds of the first green corn hybrid, BRS 3046, developed by Embrapa and called Saboroso, are now available to producers on the market. It is recommended for the Northeast, Southeast, Center-West and the State of Paraná (north, northeast and west) regions, for harvest and off-season plantings. It can also be used in grain and silage production.

Very important for small and medium-sized producers, Saboroso, in addition to carrying the Embrapa brand, arrives to expand the consumer market for fresh corn and cooking. With it, the preparation of dishes such as tamale, porridge, hominy, curau, cakes and pies gains momentum because it has an excellent yield.

BRS 3046 is agronomically superior corn to other hybrids available on the market. It can be planted all year round; it is super early and has  male flowering in 60,5 days; has orange-yellow grains; cob with an average length of 18 centimeters; and average productivity of 30 thousand to 40 thousand ears per hectare. It is resistant to some diseases, such as common rust.

Coordinated by researcher Paulo Evaristo de Oliveira Guimarães, from Embrapa Milho e Sorgo, based in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, the development of this hybrid took nine years and had the participation of experienced scientists from at least six Embrapa units located in the Center-West , Southeast, North and Northeast.

In the Mid-North region, tests with the strains that gave rise to BRS 3046 were conducted by researcher Milton Cardoso, from 2007 to 2016. Experiments were installed in Teresina and Bom Jesus, in Piauí, and in the municipalities of Mata Roma and São Raimundo das Mangabeiras, in Maranhão.

The seeds of the hybrid can be found at distributors Plantmax Sementes (phone (85) 3032-4894, email plantmax@terra.com.br) and Mhatriz Pesquisa Agrícola (phone (64) 3571-3463, email mhatrizpesquisa@gmail .with).
