The plant nutrition market has never been as heated in Brazil as it has been in recent times. According to the Brazilian Association of Plant Nutrition Technology (Abisolo), in 2020, the special fertilizers segment alone earned more than R$10 billion, an increase of 41,8% compared to R$7,1 billion in 2019. Faced with this blue ocean of opportunities that is Brazilian agriculture, Harvest Agro begins operating on Brazilian soil with a focus on developing maximum efficiency technologies in plant translocation and nutrition, adjuvants and biological control.
Belonging to the Wirstchat Group, which has been operating in the agro sector for over 12 years, developing and supplying polymers to increase the efficiency of solid NPK fertilizers, Harvest Agro, although a new brand, is already a big one. The projection is that the young company alone this year will more than double the group's revenue, going from the current R$25 million to around R$55 million. “This leaves us in a national ranking where there are less than 10% of companies in the foliar fertilizer sector in their first year of existence”, says Andreto Ceolin, operational director and founder of the company.
“We are immensely proud to be partners for the distribution of our polymers to the largest agricultural group in the world, to the second largest in Brazil, to giant cooperatives and smaller national groups that are of paramount importance for our sustainable growth and national capillarity”, he points out. Ceolin.
To achieve these figures, the group invested R$ 12 million in the construction of its new 8.000 m² factory, strategically located in Olímpia, in the interior of São Paulo, which has state-of-the-art equipment for the manufacture of new special fertilizers. from the Harvest Agro brand.
All investment was made with own capital, without depending on third parties, banks or investment funds. “We combined all the experience we have in increasing the agronomic efficiency of fertilizers, leading to foliar nutrition. We combine the technology that we already have created in Brazil, developed here for the farmer and for Brazilian soil, with a little of what we have experience with the international market”, says the executive.
Also according to the director, technology in foliar fertilizer needs to be constantly evolving, providing nutrients in an appropriate way to improve the plant's metabolism. “Today we don't just focus on nutrition, what we seek is to accelerate the plant's metabolism to try to harvest more, with good results in nutrition and consequently in productivity for the farmer and for national agriculture”, reinforces the company's founder.
To differentiate itself with its products in this highly competitive plant nutrition market, Harvest Agro counts on the mentoring and experience of one of its partners, the doctor in plant nutrition, Dr. Roberto Reis, who is a national reference in the subject. The company also structured a chemical department, which is headed by the master in biotechnology and plant nutrition, Msc. Iris Tiski.
Harvest Agro also has partnerships with a large part of the national scientific chain such as Embrapa, Iapar, autonomous consultancies and other research foundations across the country. “Our team is very fast, dynamic and this makes us ahead with our technology, as most of the time we see many multinationals bringing products from countries that don't even have crops that we grow in Brazil. And decision-making and changing any product to meet the producer's needs is very time-consuming”, reinforces the director.
With the challenge of feeding an increasingly growing world population, the demand for plant-based nutrition tends to keep pace. Given this, it is essential that companies are prepared for this more dynamic agriculture. The market will continue to grow and countries in the world that have this natural vocation, like Brazil, with an almost perfect climate for planting, will be major protagonists.
For Andreto, the privileged climatic conditions and a lot of technology, combined with the particular vocation that Brazilians have for agriculture, allow for an optimistic vision for the sector. “The producer is capitalized and we have had several years of good harvests. Furthermore, planting areas are always improving to feed the growing world population, and China has a lot of appetite for stockpiling,” he says.
With a very well-tuned team led by the commercial director, Jorge Mendonça, Harvest Agro's goal and focus is not just market share, but also serving the farmer closely. “Our goal is not to lose customers and sell next year to the same customers we sold to in 2021, not to go prospecting in the market without knowing where we are going or wanting to go. We want to retain farmer loyalty and their needs with sustainable growth”, says the executive.
To be close to the producer, understanding and identifying their needs, Harvest Agro prioritizes targeted service with individual and unique products, always focused on Agriculture 4.0. In other words, one cannot think that the same products that serve Rio Grande do Sul will serve the Northeast or that the same solutions that are efficient in the United States or Europe will be efficient in Brazil, and vice versa.
Harvest Agro also bets on the strength of its distributor networks, which are very important for the sector to meet the demands of producers. “In the regions where we achieve this distribution, we will be loyal to one or two resellers, we want to be able to serve well and pay attention to everyone. In regions where we are unable to reach distribution, we will sell directly to the farmer”, concludes the executive.
