The Gross Production Value (VBP) of agriculture, which projects the revenue of the primary sector (within the gate), is expected to break a new record and reach R$1,192 trillion in 2021, an increase of 15,2% compared to the year past, according to estimates from the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA).
For agricultural activity, the revenue forecast for this year is R$798,69 billion, an increase of 19,3% compared to 2020, reflecting the grain harvest and the rise in prices of the main commodities on the international market. The VBP of soybeans should reach R$390 billion in 2021 (an increase of 33,6%), while corn should have an increase in revenue of 32,2%, reaching R$160,41 billion.
In relation to livestock, the estimate for 2021 is an increase of 7,6% compared to 2020 and the VBP should exceed R$394 billion. Beef is the main highlight, with a forecast of 14% growth in the chain's revenue (R$ 206,68 billion). The performance is the result of increases in both prices (11,7%) and production (2,4%).
The poultry segment is also a highlight in livestock farming, with a projected growth of 4,6% this year compared to 2020. Therefore, the gross value of production in the sector should reach R$64,42 billion.
According to the CNA, the good result of the VBP is mainly driven by commodities produced in the country (soy, corn, wheat and cotton). One of the exceptions this year has been coffee. Although it is a commodity, the trend is towards a reduction in the crop's VBP due to the drop in production typical of the crop in years with a negative biennial.
Products aimed at domestic consumption, such as tomatoes, cassava and apples, also show a tendency for revenue to decline.
