The Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) in Paraná totaled R$ 191,2 billion in 2022, according to the preliminary analysis published on Wednesday (21/06) on the website of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab). The numbers represent a growth of 6% in relation to the 2021 VBP (R$ 180,6 billion), according to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), responsible for the survey. However, if inflation for the period is considered and correcting 2021 values to 2022 prices, the result was 5% lower.
The VBP includes approximately 350 diversified items, including grains, animal proteins, fruit growing, floriculture, forestry and a wide range of agricultural products from Paraná. The data is collected by Deral technicians throughout the year with research on prices and crop conditions in the municipalities.
The Secretary of Agriculture and Supply, Norberto Ortigara, reinforced that the VBP serves as a reference for the distribution of ICMS with the municipalities, in addition to showing the magnitude of what is produced in the field. He explains that agriculture in Paraná faced difficulties last year. Under the continued effects of La Niña, weather conditions impacted the 2021/2022 harvest, hampered by cold and drought. “We had a loss of more than 13,5 million tons, considering beans, corn, soybeans and wheat. If it weren’t for the losses, we would have reached even higher figures”, he adds.
The initial expectation was that the production of beans (1st and 2nd harvests), corn (1st and 2nd harvests), soybeans and wheat could exceed 46 million tons. However, given the adversities, the harvest of these crops totaled 33 million tons.
Results
According to Deral economist Larissa Nahirny, despite grain losses, livestock production, which remained at high levels, and price appreciation were relevant factors for the final result of the VBP to be satisfactory. “In Paraná, the prices received by producers of the items surveyed in the VBP increased, on average, 21% in 2022. Of the 55 most significant crops, 39 had a positive change in the period,” she says.
Highlights
Even with the drop, soybeans continued to have the highest value among the products, reaching R$35,78 billion, followed by broiler chicken, with R$34,6 billion, corn, with R$20,2 billion, and of milk, which earned producers R$11,4 billion.
Grains
The second most representative group in terms of total value (40%) corresponds to grains, with R$76,06 billion. Soy, which generated R$35,78 billion, is the product with the greatest representation. This grain yield is 37% lower than in 2021, which is explained by the drop in the harvest, which was significantly affected by weather factors.
forest products
Forestry production increased its participation in the total value, from 3% in 2021 to 5% in 2022. The sector generated revenues of R$9,44 billion in Paraná in 2022, a real growth of 37% in relation to the previous year (R $6,2 billion). “The absolute highlight was the revenue from logs for paper and cellulose, which doubled in value and totaled R$1,8 billion”, adds the Deral economist.
Vegetables and Fruits
In vegetable production, which generated R$6,3 billion, a real growth of 22% compared to 2021 (R$4,65 billion), the main products were potatoes (R$1,58 billion) and tomatoes ( R$ 1,04 billion).
The fruit sector reached approximately R$2,5 billion in VBP, a value 7% higher than that recorded in 2021 (R$2,10 billion). The highlights were oranges (R$619,6 million), strawberries (R$389 million) and grapes (R$291,2 million).
Real Estate Management
The report confirms the leadership of livestock production in the formation of the VBP. The sector represents 51% of the value generated in rural properties in Paraná in 2022, with R$96,7 billion. “This means that we are adding more value to soy and corn, which are the basis of animal feed”, analyzes secretary Norberto Ortigara. Although the figure was quite high, the value did not grow in real terms.
The poultry sector as a whole, including the production of broiler chickens for rearing, fertile eggs and eggs for consumption, is the first product in generating value on rural properties last year, with R$45 billion.
Counties
After the publication of preliminary information in the Official Gazette, technicians and municipal managers analyze the numbers and, if they wish, can file a well-founded appeal to question agricultural performance data. “The deadline is 30 days from the official announcement. After this period, Deral publishes the final result of the 2022 VBP”, explains the head of the Department, Marcelo Garrido.
