Gross Value of Agricultural Production in 2023 is updated at R$ 1,135 trillion

This year's Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP), based on information from July, is R$1,135 trillion, an increase of 1,9% compared to 2022. Crops grew 4% and livestock farming reduced its growth by 2,9%. Crop revenue is R$801,9 billion and livestock revenue is R$333,6 billion.

The products that perform best this year are cassava (42,9%), orange (27,2%), banana (16,8%), tomato (15,9%), cocoa (13,8%), sugarcane -sugar (11,6%), peanuts (10,6%), beans (10,4%), rice (9,3%), grapes (7,5%), soy (2,5%) and corn (1,4%).

This group of products benefits from favorable prices and, in several cases, higher produced quantities.

In the Conab survey, the projection is for a record harvest of 320 million tons expected for the 2022/2023 season, which supports this position. The result is due to an increase in productivity of 11,8% and an expansion of area of ​​around 5% compared to last year. This growth in grain area went from 74,6 million hectares of planted area, in 2022, to 78,2 million hectares, in 2023.

The effect of lower prices has resulted in a decrease in the VBP of some products, such as cotton, coffee, castor beans and wheat.

The five products classified with the highest VBP are soybeans, corn, sugar cane, coffee and cotton, which account for 81,6% of the crops' VBP.

Over the last 18 months, it has been observed that VBP has grown at relatively lower rates. This decrease in real VBP growth can be attributed to the prices of corn and soybeans, which have shown a downward trend.
