Startup Silo Verde from Rio Grande do Sul, based in Tecnosinos, in São Leopoldo (RS), was selected by Artemisia - a non-profit organization that is a pioneer in the dissemination and support of social impact businesses in Brazil, to be part of the 2017 edition of its acceleration program. The organization already has a network of 100 accelerated businesses that have already impacted the lives of more than 30 million Brazilians.

The organization's search and selection process evaluated 967 companies, of which nine were chosen to participate in an intensive process lasting six months, and Silo Verde is among them. "The Startup participated in this rigorous process to increase its market representation and environmental impact and, to this end, we have also articulated the possibility of merging with investment funds to increase this reach and dissemination", informs the company's director, Manolo Machado.

Among the Accelerator's selection criteria are social impact – businesses with products and services designed to improve the quality of life of the low-income population; entrepreneurial profile (entrepreneurs with a genuine intention of changing Brazil for the better, with a history of achievements and the ability to attract talent and develop a consistent team); scale potential (profitable models with scalable solutions, with the potential to serve thousands of people in the CDE classes); and maturity stage (startups in the market testing/first sales phase to businesses already in the expansion phase, seeking rapid growth). In practice, social impact businesses from all over Brazil with innovative products and services, available on the market and seeking rapid growth.

In addition to Silo Verde, other projects were also selected. In the area of education, the business selected was 4YOU2; in health, Doctor Prime, Vida Class and QuickCheck; in financial services, Mais Fácil and IOUU; in food/nutrition, Suma; and in local development, SO+MA. Over the next six months, entrepreneurs will participate in an intense acceleration process to refine the business model and social impact of their solutions.

Founded in 2015, Silo Verde offers a sustainable solution for storing feed or grains with reduced waste and increased profitability for small rural producers. The company presents innovation in both the product and the business model. The entrepreneurs developed a silo built from recycled, high-strength polymeric raw materials, from PET bottles, with extremely quick assembly and at a lower cost compared to products on the market.

Regarding the model, it offers places to store grain and feed for small producers, made possible by industries. In this proposal, do not generate costs for small producers, increasing their income potential. Among the advantages of the product, smooth interior walls – which do not generate resistance or product accumulation; modular system of plates (disassembled, easy to transport and low cost); lower thermal conductivity that protects the product; possibility of selling the product at times of best offer and prices; and better protection against pest attack.
