Governor Eduardo Leite participated, on the afternoon of this Monday (10/01), in a meeting with representatives of entities related to agriculture to address the effects of the drought in Rio Grande do Sul. The meeting took place at the Civil House, at Palácio Piratini , and was attended by state deputies and secretaries Artur Lemos Júnior (Civil House), Silvana Covatti (Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development), Claudio Gastal (Governance, Planning and Management), José Stédile (Works and Housing) and colonel Júlio César Rocha (Casa Militar).
"We are mobilizing, among several secretariats, and this permanent forum will be an important space for us to be updated. We know the effects of the drought and that they affect several sectors in the long term. We will need to meet to control the situations that are happening” , highlighted the governor.
Last Wednesday (05/01), Leite met with secretary Silvana to discuss the state government's actions to mitigate the effects of the drought, such as the expansion of the Forage Seeds program and the subsidy for the Seed Exchange program of Corn from the 2021/2022 harvest to producers in municipalities that have declared an emergency situation, in addition to prioritizing the release of resources for projects linked to irrigation in the Advance in Agriculture and Rural Development program, whose total contribution will be R$ 275,9 million .
As of this Monday (10/01), 175 municipalities are in an emergency situation. Of these, 52 have approved decrees and 23 have a status recognized by the Union.
“We are seeing a huge loss in the production of milk, poultry, pig farming, corn, soy and bean crops. Our producer is suffering a lot from the drought, we are losing our agricultural production, and this also affects our animals and our economy, but the State's actions are being quick”, highlighted Secretary Silvana.
During the meeting, parliamentarians presented demands, expressed concerns about the effects of the drought in the State and suggested measures to be taken.
Representatives from the Agriculture Federation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Farsul), the Federation of Agricultural Workers in Rio Grande do Sul (Fetag), the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FecoAgro/RS) participated, the Federation of Municipal Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Famurs), the Central Cooperative of Settlements of RS (Coceargs) and the National Union of Family Agriculture and Solidarity Economy Cooperatives (Unicafes).
