How to prevent establishment of Helicoverpa punctigera in Brazil
Preventing the introduction, establishment and dispersal of potential exotic pests such as Helicoverpa punctigera in Brazil is a necessity
The public-private agreement, coordinated by the National Health and Agricultural Quality Service (Senasa), managed to reduce a large part of the locust cloud in the province of Entre Ríos, carrying out aerial and ground treatment.
"The main objective was to 'break' the cloud so that it does not form again, which has not happened so far. During yesterday, live locusts were detected, mainly isolated, and therefore treatments continued over the next few days", explained the coordinator of the Senasa Program, Héctor Medina.
"The pest, due to its behavior, tends to regroup, it is essential to continue with monitoring and control actions, in the case of detection of locust species", added the professional from the state health agency.
Likewise, Senasa teams are working intensely in Chaco and Formosa to find the location of the cloud that entered Paraguay and was quickly detected, last Monday, by the agency's surveillance actions.
The cloud would quickly reach the province of Formosa. On Tuesday he arrived in Chaco. With low mobility, on Saturday he had flown to Formosa after the alert from informants in Pozo del Tigre, and on Sunday he crossed the Bermejo River again to return to the province of Chaco.
It is located in difficult-to-access areas, close to El Impenetrable National Park, which makes the work of examiners and informants essential for management work.
