The good rainfall volumes recorded in the South region during the first 20 days of September benefited winter crops in most producing areas. The highest rainfall volumes were observed in Rio Grande do Sul, mainly in the first week of the month. This information is available in the Agricultural Monitoring Bulletin (BMA), released this week by the National Supply Company (CONAB).

Spectral data show that conditions have been favorable in the main wheat-producing regions, the grain with the largest area planted in winter crops, despite frost and storms in some areas. Graphs showing the evolution of the vegetation index (VI) in the main wheat-producing regions, where crops are mostly in vegetative development, flowering, and grain filling, show that conditions have been generally favorable.

In the monitored regions, it is observed that the index evolved above the historical average, during most of the crop development period, currently being close to or above the previous harvest.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the main wheat-producing state, the overall condition of the crops is considered good. In Paraná, another major producer, the weather favored harvest progress, and most crops are maturing, while in Santa Catarina, the crop shows good production potential.

Most of Santa Catarina's crops are in vegetative development, while some are progressing toward grain filling. The alternation between sunny periods and high humidity has favored plant growth.

Summer crops for the 2025/26 harvest

According to the Bulletin published by the Company, sowing of the new summer crop is progressing, primarily under irrigated cultivation or in areas with available soil water. Irrigated rice planting is just beginning in Rio Grande do Sul, concentrated in pre-germinated cultivation areas, and in Santa Catarina, sowing of the grain is more advanced on the North coast.

Sowing of the first corn crop is occurring at a rapid pace in the South region, favored by rising temperatures and regular rainfall. As for soybean planting, it is incipient in the Center-West and is concentrated mainly in irrigated areas. In Paraná, planting has begun in some areas of the west and southwest regions, where soil moisture has allowed field operations and fostered good initial crop development.
