Producers in RS receive guidance on controlling corn leafhoppers
Topics were covered such as the appropriate choice of cultivars with resistance to the corn leafhopper and other aspects to be observed in the seed
According to the 10th Grain Harvest Survey of the National Supply Company (Conab), released this Thursday (08/07), the production of almost 24,7 million tons of grains is expected in the 2020/2021 harvest , in Goiás. If the forecast is confirmed, the State should remain as the 4th largest national producer of grains and the expectation is that 6,2 million hectares will be cultivated in this harvest, an increase of 1,9% in relation to the previous harvest.
Among the highlights of Goiás are sorghum and sunflower, which occupy the first position in the national production ranking. In the case of sorghum, the estimate is almost 1,2 million tons of grain, an increase of 7,3% in production, in relation to the 2019/2020 harvest, and productivity of 3,1 tons per hectare, an increase of 6,5. 377,9% compared to the previous harvest. The forecast is for a planted area of 0,8 thousand hectares, XNUMX% greater than in the previous harvest.
For sunflower, the estimate is 34,5 thousand tons in the 2020/2021 harvest, an increase of 4,9% compared to the previous harvest, and productivity of more than 1,5 tons per hectare. The cultivated area is forecast at 23,0 thousand hectares, growth of 17,3% compared to the 2019/2020 harvest.
In soybean and corn crops, Conab estimates production of 13,7 million and 9,0 million in the 2020/2021 harvest, respectively. The planned soybean cultivated area is almost 3,7 million hectares, an increase of 4,2% compared to the previous harvest, and productivity of 3,7 tons per hectare. In total corn, the cultivated area should be just over 1,8 million hectares and productivity of 4,9 tons per hectare. In soybeans, Goiás should confirm itself as the 4th largest national producer, while in corn the estimate is that the State will be the 3rd largest producer in the country.
In the case of wheat, Goiás should register a 53,9% growth in production in the current harvest, compared to the previous one. The estimate is 142,2 thousand tons of grain and a cultivated area of 55,0 thousand tons, an increase of 138,0% compared to the 2019/2020 harvest.
According to the head of the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tiago Mendonça, grain production in the 2020/2021 harvest has maintained the same perspectives, despite fluctuating between one crop and another. “This is normal, because it depends on factors such as climate, planting period, etc. In recent weeks, we have had a drop in temperature and this may reflect in some way on certain cultures. In the case of off-season corn, for example, the lack of rain combined with planting outside the window is already resulting in an almost 30% drop compared to the last harvest,” he explains.
According to data from the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production, also released this Thursday (08/07) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Goiás is expected to record an increase in the production of crops such as oranges, grapes, cassava and bananas, with 155,5 thousand tons (12,4%), 1,6 thousand tons (11,0%), 187,1 thousand tons (10,9%) and 215,7 thousand tons (5,0%), respectively.
