"Future of tropical agriculture for society" is the theme of ESALQSHOW 2018

Innovation Forum for Sustainable Agribusiness will take place between the 9th and 11th of October, at the USP ESALQ campus, in Piracicaba (SP), and will discuss the central theme in several events

With the proposal to stimulate innovations, entrepreneurship and foster new partnerships, ESALQSHOW 2018, Innovation Forum for Sustainable Agribusiness, will be on the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, at the Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (USP ESALQ), in Piracicaba (SP). “Future of tropical agriculture for society” is the central theme that will guide this year’s edition of the event and will be addressed in the various events that make up the Forum’s programming, with the aim of connecting professionals and national and international leaders, stimulating cooperation in search for solutions in the face of the great challenges and opportunities of agriculture, livestock and agribusiness as a whole.

On October 9th, the official opening ceremony will feature the central lecture “The Future of Tropical Agriculture for Society”, which will broadly cover the context for debates and discussions of the different themes that will be dealt with in more depth throughout the course. ESALQSHOW. On the same day, the Agriculture Leadership Meeting will also take place, with representatives from universities, research centers, associations and other institutions from Brazil and abroad with the purpose of contextualizing in a broad, strategic and global way the vision of each entity on the theme of the main lecture. At the meeting, experts will list the challenges, initiatives, plans and ideas, including the training needs of future talents.

For the President of the Council of ESALQSHOW, Roberto Rodrigues, Brazil's competitors invest vigorously in agribusiness and it is essential that the country's leaders pay attention to competitiveness and support development. “In the tough global dispute that could transform Brazil into the world champion of food security and peace, given that there will be no peace where there is hunger, there is no doubt that winning the cup depends on innovation and technology”, he points out.

According to Rodrigues, the event in 2018 will be a showcase of sustainable tropical technology guided by the demonstration of innovations and agro startups. “We will have a far-reaching event that will be worth participating in, as it will bring discussions between the main representatives of the public and private sector on how to advance even further than we have already done”, he adds.

"The ESALQSHOW comes to strengthen and expand the role of USP ESALQ and its partners, as well as expand integration between universities and other sectors that involve the entire agribusiness. The event is a way to give visibility to the academy's initiatives and also show the public several new products, services and projects. This is the opportunity to capture new market demands for technological innovations, development of joint research and training of human resources, in a dynamic environment”, says the director of USP ESALQ, Luiz Gustavo Nussio.

AgTech Valley Summit

On the 10th and 11th of October, the main leaders from different segments of agribusiness will meet for rounds of dynamic debates.

On the 10th, the central theme will be “Management of integrated systems in agriculture”, which will address Agriculture 5.0, presenting to participants the importance of rational management of information and knowledge. In addition, the panel will address issues such as water footprint, potential of corn production for ethanol and human and animal food, integrated systems and innovations in animal production and sustainable management of pest and disease control.

On the 11th, the theme will be “Tropical agriculture and society in the future” in which the debaters will talk about technological changes and production scale challenges, the sustainable use of inputs in agriculture and food challenges, scenarios of climate change and the future of agriculture, financial innovations and the social role of agriculture in the future and career opportunities for the professional of the future in agribusiness.

“The 2018 themes of the AgTech Valley Summit reflect the feedback obtained in the first edition of the event, also aligned with the Luiz de Queiróz Chair, built in 2017”, says Luiz Mario Machado Salvi, president of Araiby, the company that jointly organizes ESALQSHOW with USP ESALQ.

ESALQ & Cia Innovation Space

With the aim of offering a dynamic space where participants can debate problems, solutions and trends, stimulating networking and promoting new ideas, technologies, products and services, the ESALQ & Cia Inovar Space will have stands from ESALQSHOW sponsors, Research Centers , companies and startups, USP ESALQ and AgTech Valley. In two auditoriums there will be presentations and debates on different topics, deepening what was debated in 2017. On the 10th, the central theme will be “Digital Agriculture” and on the 11th, “Startups in Agribusiness”, in addition to other events. 

Digital Agriculture Panel

With alternating presentations from universities, companies and research and development entities, the Digital Agriculture Panel aims to stimulate the exchange of knowledge involving the central theme “Digital Agriculture”. The Panel will feature lectures and a round table that will debate Instrumentation, Connectivity, Monitoring, and the Digital Agriculture Market. 

Events for startups

With the purpose of offering consultancy to those interested in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs already with startups at different stages, on the 10th, the “Event for Startups – Agriculture and Agribusiness” will help professionals to develop and materialize their ideas.

“Entrepreneurs will be able to have practical help and receive marketing guidance, on how to identify opportunities, get the idea off the ground and analyze the viability of the project, survey costs and even on team development, such as organizational structure, work model best suited and how to assemble a team”, explains Luiz Mario.

With lectures and a round table, on the 11th, the seminar “Perspectives on AgTech Startups in Brazil and the World” will bring topics for an audience interested in entrepreneurship, the opportunity to listen and debate with national and international references in startups in the market.   

ESALQ Showcase

On the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, at the ESALQ Showcase, excellent projects and services made available to society by USP ESALQ will be presented. The University opens its doors to the community and offers the opportunity to get to know, through scheduled and monitored visits, the departments that make up the institution, which house around 150 laboratories and develop teaching, research and extension activities that serve society whether in rural and urban environment.
