The 'Luiz de Queiroz' College of Agriculture, at the University of São Paulo (Esalq/USP), launched the 5th edition of the 'Manual of Phytopathology Volume 1: Principles and Concepts', organized by professors Lilian Amorim, Jorge AM Rezende and Armando Bergamin Filho, from the Department of Phytopathology and Nematology at Esalq/USP.
The first edition of the manual was released in 1968 and tens of thousands of copies of the material have already been sold, which is a reference for students, researchers and professionals in the agronomic field. The content covers basic concepts of phytopathology, causal agents, disease control, group of diseases, pathophysiology and genomics of plant-pathogen interactions and epidemiology.
The new edition of the manual features Fundecitrus researchers Geraldo José Silva Junior and Franklin Behlau as authors of the chapter on chemical control.
According to Silva Junior, the writing of this chapter was focused on updating the different ways of classifying pesticides used to control plant diseases, as well as the inclusion of important issues related to the history of use and development of pesticides, pathogen resistance products and application technology.
“When we received the invitation, we already knew what a difficult task it would be to update one of the most important chapters of this manual, which is a reference in several undergraduate Agronomy courses in Brazil. We hope that this new, renewed and redesigned edition can meet all readers’ desires”, adds Behlau.
