II Wheat Technical Seminar discussed the São Paulo and national scenario for the grain
Event discussed the São Paulo wheat market with the presence of seed producers, multipliers, cereal growers, technicians, mills and wheat farmers from the state
On March 26th (Thursday), Fundecitrus promotes the International Mechanized Citrus Harvest Workshop, from 8am to 17pm, at Bazuah Eventos, in Araraquara (SP). The event is free and has the support of Embrapa and Agromillora. Spaces are limited and registration must be done on the website.
The objective is to learn about the experience of the global citrus industry and other fruit sectors on the topic, present ongoing research and discuss the challenges and opportunities for mechanized citrus harvesting. Researchers and representatives of technology companies from Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, United States, Israel and New Zealand will give presentations that will cover everything from planning practices, orchard adaptation and mechanical harvesters to new solutions for process automation and robotics.
Citrus is one of the main fruit crops cultivated around the world, present in more than 100 countries and occupying around 10 million hectares in 2018. The citrus belt of São Paulo and Triângulo/Southwest Mineiro is the world's largest orange producer and the largest exporter of fruit juice – the 2019/20 harvest is estimated at 384,87 million boxes with a record average productivity per hectare, 1.041 boxes. Brazilian citrus production is considered highly technical, although harvesting is still predominantly manual, which makes the process a major challenge for the sector.
During the event, the “Guide for recognizing citrus in the field” will be launched, written by Embrapa researcher Eduardo Girardi in partnership with other researchers from the institution and Fundecitrus. The book, rich in photos and images, provides the main characteristics of sweet orange varieties and other citrus species, as well as information on new rootstocks for citrus growing.
