Fundecitrus held, on Wednesday (25/01), a meeting with citrus growers and other professionals in the sector in the municipality of Aguaí (SP) with the aim of reinforcing measures to combat greening inside and outside the properties. The event had the support of the city hall, Brazilian Table Citrus Association (ABCM), Agricultural Defense Coordination (CDA) and the Comprehensive Technical Assistance Coordination (CATI), of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA).

In studies carried out by Fundecitrus professionals in the region, it was possible to verify that within the urban perimeter of Aguaí there are several ornamental plants that are attractive to the psyllid, increasing the spread of the insect that transmits the disease. Given this scenario, an action to raise awareness and replace these plants was agreed, which will be carried out in strategic locations in the municipality, with the support of the city hall. “We discussed this issue with those present because it is important to replace these plants, as the psyllid can fly within a radius of 4 to 5 km, reaching orchards that are healthy, for example”, explains Arthur Tomaseto, agronomist at Fundecitrus .

The meeting was attended by more than 60 people linked to the citrus industry and representatives of public authorities. During the meeting, the mayor of Aguaí, José Alexandre Pereira de Araújo, also spoke to the public; ABCM representative Lígia Martucci; and Ricardo Andrade Leme, general manager of N.C.M Simonetti. Aguaí is one of the ten largest orange producing municipalities in the state of São Paulo and also has a harvesting system without mechanization, generating employment and income for dozens of families.
