The free greening diagnostic service provided by Fundecitrus has adopted improvements to increase its efficiency and sustainability. The changes were implemented based on work carried out by Fundecitrus' scientific research analyst, Rosangela Kishi, to obtain the title of specialist in Project Management from Esalq/USP, which had the diagnostic service as its theme.
Citrus growers use the service if they have doubts about the symptoms and presence of greening, so that the eradication of diseased plants can be assertive. The diagnosis is also widely used in research conducted by Fundecitrus and partners. The service has been available since 2004 and has already analyzed more than 104 thousand samples.
“The diagnosis contributes to the progress of research and helps citrus growers in managing greening. By raising awareness among users, it generates economic and social impact”, highlights the research analyst.
To evaluate this work and also the training offered, Rosangela prepared questionnaires, answered by the different audiences served, which made it possible to identify positive points and points to be improved, in addition to the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN.
Based on the responses, a proposal was developed to improve adherence to sustainability, internal and external communication and waste management and software used in diagnosis. Some actions are already being implemented, such as the mandatory filling out of a form when delivering samples, to provide more details about the necessary analysis, and the hiring of a company to advise and organize the disposal of waste produced in the laboratories and at Fundecitrus.
