Fundecitrus, in partnership with researchers from the Instituto Biológico (IB) Adalton Raga and Miguel Francisco de Souza-Filho, developed a technical manual with measures for the sustainable control of fruit flies.

The material brings together information on species harmful to citrus, their characteristics, occurrence, life cycle and symptoms of attacks, in addition to the main measures for monitoring and management aimed at maintaining the population at low levels, reducing damage to production.

In recent years, there has been an increase in damage caused by fruit flies to citrus crops. In the 2019/20 harvest, the action of the pest, together with that of the ferret, was the third main cause of fruit loss (24% of the total fruit lost, equivalent to more than 20 million boxes of oranges), behind only natural and mechanical falling (29% of total fruit lost) and greening (25% of total fruit lost).
