According to the latest analysis of Edenred Frete's Road Freight Index (IFR), based on exclusive data from the Edenred Repom platform, the average freight price per kilometer traveled in the country fell again in June. The national average fell from R$7,43 in May to R$7,35 in June, a 1,08% decline.

The decline recorded in June was driven by a combination of factors. The main one is diesel, whose average prices continue to decline at gas stations. According to the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), in June, the average price of regular diesel fell 1,29%, while S-10 type fell 1,44% compared to May, causing both fuels to reach their lowest average price levels recorded this year. This reduction in fuel costs had a direct impact on freight prices.

Another factor associated with diesel prices that impacted prices was the adjustment to the minimum freight price, which came into effect at the end of May. Unlike the previous month, June saw direct repercussions from the new rules established by ANTT, with downward adjustments to prices, which also contributed to the observed decline.

Furthermore, economic activity showed clear signs of slowing down throughout the month, especially in the industrial and construction sectors. Reduced movement in these segments reduced demand for transportation, which helped to push prices down. In the field, the delay in harvesting the second corn crop also held back part of the expected volume for the period. Added to this was the appreciation of the real against the dollar, which helped reduce logistics costs associated with imported inputs.

"In June, we saw a convergence of factors that led to a slight drop in prices. Cheaper diesel, the economic downturn, and the full impact of the new minimum price floor helped push freight prices down. It was a one-off drop, but it reveals how sensitive the sector is to macroeconomic and seasonal dynamics," comments Vinicios Fernandes (pictured), Director of Edenred Frete.

For July, the outlook remains uncertain. "The recovery of agribusiness and the possible resumption of demand in certain sectors could exert upward pressure. At the same time, the behavior of the dollar and fuel prices will remain under surveillance," Vinicios concludes.
