FMC Corporation announced the submission of regulatory applications for the herbicide Dodhylex in eight rice-producing countries, including Brazil, India and the United States. Registration was requested in nations representing approximately 35% of the 165 million hectares of rice planted worldwide. The company plans to expand regulatory submissions to other key markets.

Dodhylex, the trade name for the compound tetflupyrolimet (C19H16F4N2O2, CAS 2053901-33-8), has been classified by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) and the American Weed Science Society (WSSA) as a Group herbicide. 28. This marks the introduction of the first new herbicide mode of action in more than three decades. The novelty promises to be an essential tool for farmers in managing herbicide resistance, a growing challenge globally.

Seva Rostovtsev, executive vice president and chief technology officer at FMC, highlighted the relevance of the new herbicide in combating resistant weeds in rice plantations. "This is particularly notable because rice is a grass, and controlling weeds in grass crops is challenging," he said.

Studies indicate that the proprietary molecule provides sustained control of resistant weeds throughout the entire season, regardless of the rice cultivation method. Additionally, FMC is investigating the use of Dodhylex in other crops, such as sugar cane, wheat, soybeans and corn.

Brian P. Angeli, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at FMC, highlighted that Dodhylex is one of several new molecules under development at the company, which target both short- and long-term growth.

"There are opportunities to control resistant weeds in other crops, and we are exploring additional markets for Dodhylex beyond rice. We believe this will expand our global market in the future," Angeli said.

FMC's expectation is that the first launches of Dodhylex will occur in 2026, depending on regulatory decisions.
